Dining Out with Food Allergies

Tip #1 Do your research. Utilize the many food allergy friendly restaurant guides like @AllergyEats.

Tip #2 Ask your food allergy friends about their restaurant recommendations.

Tip #3 Call ahead of time. Let them get prepared for you. Tell them everything they need to know.

Tip #4 There are always risks! Be prepared for the worst. Carry Benadryl and EpiPens.

Tip #5 Consult a food allergy dining expert like @allergicgirl. In NYC she hosts numerous educational dinners. 

Tip #6 Bring food allergy "restaurant cards". Allow them to hold on to the cards during your meal.

Tip #7 At the restaurant remember to very friendly. Don't let them feel threaten by food allergies.

Tip #8 Get to know everyone in the "front" of the restaurant: the hostesses, servers, managers.

Tip #9 Kindly ask to meet the chef. Don't just rely on a server. Talk to the one who is preparing your meal

Tip #10 Don't be afraid to ask for a tour of the kitchen. Chefs love to show off their kitchens.

Tip #11 Don't be afraid to leave the restaurant if you don't feel safe. Make sure you tell them why you're leaving.

Tip #12 Send the restaurant a thank you letter or a disappoint letter. Be very specific about your experience.
